Was it necessary?
Not that this is a bad game or anything but... ugh...Nintendo.. Why? You've done this before! Exactly the same game even...EXACTLY!
What am I talking about? On the Super Nintendo, there's a game called 'Super Mario All-Stars - 25th Anniversary Edition'. I got this game when I was about 7, but I was too busy playing Pokemon Silver, so I didn't play it that often.
What I'm trying to say is, go ahead and buy it, but if you have a Super Nintendo, do yourself a favor and buy Super Mario All-Stars for 20 euros, like I said, exactly the same, what a disappointment Nintendo!

After the overwhelming success of Super Mario Bros, more and more Mario games flooded the market. Especially for Mario's 25th birthday, Nintendo released a special disc featuring 4 top Mario games. In addition to Super Mario All-Stars - 25th Anniversary Edition, this disc also includes Mario: The Lost Levels (previously only released in Japan), Super Mario Bros 2, and Super Mario Bros 3.

These are 4 top-level games, but as a surprise for the fans, Nintendo has also included an extra disc with the soundtrack of Mario games throughout the years. There's also a booklet where the creator of Mario personally gives his own opinion on each of the Mario games released so far.

If you don't already have these four Mario classics in your collection, now's your chance. Super Mario All-Stars - 25th Anniversary Edition is still very enjoyable to play even today. However, if you already own these games, it's not a good idea to make this purchase.

4 Awesome Games, Nintendo Milking It!
Where have I seen this before? Oh yeah, the SNES.
Super Mario All-Stars - 25th Anniversary Edition is nice, but it's exactly the same as the SNES version of Mario Allstars back in the day. No changes at all, not even in the graphics or an extra mini-game or something.
But that doesn't diminish the magic of these 4 great games, of course. I still enjoy playing them to this day, but shelling out 30 euros for it is a bit much for me.

Super Mario Allstars is a great classic
This game is an old classic and I am very happy that it has been re-released.
The levels are much more challenging than the new Super Mario Bros, which can be annoying at times but it's also fun to play those old games again.
It's one of the most enjoyable Mario games ever!

Great for collectors, but a bit lacking for new players.
This is a fun game for in-between moments but feels somewhat unnecessary. For gamers who played the games on this special edition a long time ago, it might be enjoyable, but it's missing Super Mario World! I also think they could have included, for example, Super Mario 64, as these retro SNES games may not be very exciting for new gamers anymore.

Brings back warm memories!
A fun game, definitely a recommendation for people who haven't played the game before. These people can see how the little plumber from Brooklyn has grown with adventures that can keep you busy for hours. Also a nice reminder for people who remember this game series in its original form from the old days. These games remain top-notch. If you have already downloaded the games via the Virtual Console, it is not advisable to buy this title for €30. However, if you are a collector of everything related to Super Mario Bros, then the game is definitely worth it.

The only thing I find less appealing is that they could have made the 25th-anniversary edition a bit more extensive by including the first game Mario appeared in (Donkey Kong) and the original Mario Bros. I also expected a bit more Mario Bros history, maybe by including another game where Mario is the main focus, such as Super Mario Kart and/or Super Mario World.
Other than that, there is nothing wrong with Super Mario All-Stars - 25th Anniversary Edition, and the extra CD and historical booklet are a nice bonus with the game!

Cool, yet lazy port
Let's not beat around the bush, Super Mario All-Stars - 25th Anniversary Edition remains a cool game, but oh Nintendo, they've been so lazy with this. It's exactly the same game as for the SNES, and they didn't even include the Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World version, nor are the original versions of the games (from the NES and Famicom) anywhere to be found. The booklet and CD are nice additions, but unfortunately, they can't hide the fact that Nintendo really cut corners with this one.

Cool, but can you just download it?
Most of the time, it doesn't really make sense to buy Super Mario All-Stars - 25th Anniversary Edition. Firstly, these are 3 old games that you might already have, and secondly, you can just download them through the Wii Channel, and that only costs a total of 15 euros. Unless, of course, you're doing it for the booklet and the CD...
But if you don't have internet on your Wii, then it's worth considering.

Definitely worth it, especially for collectors
So, is Super Mario All-Stars - 25th Anniversary Edition actually any good? All those old graphics, literally copied from the old version, and a booklet and soundtrack thrown in... What's fun about that?
A whole lot!!!
First of all, you get 4 games for only 30 euros! And on top of that, a nice box, a soundtrack, and a booklet to complete the package!
The games included (Super Mario Bros 1, 2, 3, and the lost levels) are actually much more challenging than today's games, so a real test! Unfortunately, it's a direct copy and a bit old-fashioned, but for the collector or someone who has never played them and has a slight retro vibe, it's definitely not a bad buy!
