Muramasa: The Demon Blade - Nintendo Wii

Muramasa is breathtaking Japanese art in game form, but repetition and lack of depth prevent the game from achieving an even higher score.

Product Description

Wowie! Muramasa: The Demon Blade is a Fantastic action RPG developed by Vanillaware and published by Marvelous Entertainment. This game takes you on an epic adventure in ancient Japan, where you play as the ninja Momohime or the warrior Kisuke. The gameplay is super smooth, with fast sword fights and stunning 2D graphics that are simply breathtaking! You can collect different swords, each with their own unique powers and abilities. And you know what makes it truly special? The deep stories and beautiful art style that completely immerse you in the atmosphere of ancient Japan. Oopsie, I just can't stop playing!

Historical Context

Muramasa: The Demon Blade originally released in 2009 for the Nintendo Wii and quickly became a cult classic! Its gorgeous hand-drawn graphics and intense gameplay made it a must-have for every Nintendo fan. In 2013, the game was re-released as Muramasa Rebirth for the PlayStation Vita, but of course, the original Wii version remains my favorite. Fantastic to see how this game has retained its charm over the years!

Is It for You?

This game is perfect for fans of action RPGs and enthusiasts of Japanese folklore. If you love beautiful 2D graphics and fast, intense battles, then Muramasa: The Demon Blade is definitely for you! Collectors of unique and artistic games will surely appreciate this title. And I must say, I would find it Fantastic to run through this beautiful world with Yoshi and Luma!

Similar Games

If you enjoy Muramasa: The Demon Blade, I also recommend trying Odin Sphere and Dragon's Crown, both also developed by Vanillaware. These games feature the same beautiful art style and engaging gameplay. For a bit more action, try The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess or Okami, both real gems on the Wii!

Mr. M's Adventure

Haha! If I could play Muramasa: The Demon Blade with Yoshi and Luma, that would be an epic adventure! We would run through the beautiful landscapes of Japan, battle demons, and collect magical swords. Of course, Yoshi would use his tongue to defeat enemies, while Luma would protect us with his magical powers. And me? I would just be super Fantastic! Wowie!

Beautiful graphics, but repetitive gameplay
Truly a stunning game! But that's about it. Muramasa: The Demon Blade lets you play as 1 of 2 characters. The game is a 2D adventure where you roam around and slash everything in sight. The first few levels are fun, but it stays the same throughout the entire game. Quite a shame!

So beautifuuul!
Muramasa: The Demon Blade is a dazzling action RPG. A valid audiovisual spectacle!
The numerous boss battles are super cool and leave you curious for the next boss. The battles in between are a bit repetitive though.
You'll only start to grasp the story after playing through it multiple times. I've spent many hours collecting swords and discovering the special power of each sword.

2D: Far from Extinct
These days you see more and more promotion for 3D: it's more, grander, and better than 2D. And of course, there is some truth to this: three dimensions can offer more than two. Then came Muramasa: The Demon Blade...

... and blew all dimensions away at once! This game shows that there is still hope for 2D games (besides well-known classics like Mario), and that a game doesn't have to be 3D to look amazing. With beautiful graphics and great gameplay, this is definitely a game to try out. Because really, what does one more or less "D" matter anyway?
