Better than the real Sims
The Sims 2: Castaway offers a refreshing take on the Sims series. Your Sims end up stranded on a deserted island, where you must survive, build a life, and eventually ensure your rescue. Since I find the original Sims rather uninteresting and pointless, this game was a pleasant surprise for me; it remains a very open game, but less aimless, with more intriguing locations and ideas.

Fun game for adults too
The Sims 2: Castaway is a very fun and highly addictive game. I played this game for hours with my 9-year-old daughter and 15-year-old son.

It's a shame that I couldn't find some things (a certain flower) and also didn't find all the treasure maps. We did use some cheats, but even that didn't help us finish the game. We did manage to get rescued twice (picked up by a helicopter and sailed away from the island on a catamaran, then picked up by a cruise ship). All in all, a very fun game that adults can enjoy too. Definitely recommended!!

Not a fun game at all!
I don't find The Sims 2: Castaway for the Wii to be a fun game at all. This was my first Sims game on the Wii, and I didn't enjoy it. The instructions are unclear, and the controls constantly lag.
The graphics are decent, but I expected much more from it!

Adventurously fun game, but very different from the 'regular' Sims games.
I find The Sims 2: Castaway a very enjoyable game, as you wash up on a deserted island and have to figure out how to survive. It's very adventurous, and you have to think smart to solve certain problems. This game does differ greatly from the 'regular' Sims games. Here, you're not taking care of a family, but you have to survive and thrive!

Well, what can I say about it?
It's a fun game... The Sims 2 Castaway looks really nice, and it has a storyline.
I just found it too difficult, I'm not that great at Sims games anyway, but with this one, I particularly disliked having to do so much... When I was looking for food, I had to keep an eye on my music meter or my sleep meter. And I think those things decrease too quickly... You hardly get a chance to do anything because you're too busy trying to fill up all your meters!

It's for people who love adventure.

Innovative yet familiar
I find The Sims 2: Castaway for the GameCube very original among the Sims games; the idea of washing up on an island is very impressive! You also have to taste things to discover if they are edible. Like in other Sims games, I do find it difficult to maintain your Sims, and he immediately spits out poisonous berries, dealing with a poisoning would have been more interesting.

Cobbler, stick to your last!
The Sims games on PC were great, and some parts of the Wii versions are (briefly) fun too. However, in this case, it's a whole different story: it's like a mix between the original Sims concept and the TV series LOST, where your goal is to get rescued from a deserted island while trying to keep yourself alive in the meantime.

Unfortunately, one of the main elements, interacting with other families, is completely missing here. It also seems like certain aspects were poorly thought out, leading to absurd situations: you earn money by chopping wood, which you then spend on furniture and supplies for your camp. But where does your Sim actually spend this money, and why not just call for rescue using the phone in that store?

The game is indeed original, but perhaps it would have been better if EA had stuck closer to the original Sims concept after all...

I find The Sims 2: Castaway to be a unique, yet humorous Sims game. It's actually not at all what you would expect from a Sims game. They've really given it a different twist with this Sims installment. Essentially, you wash ashore on a deserted island and have to survive using the materials you find there. So, it's truly a survival game, but in Sims style! Normally, I wouldn't be interested in Sims games at all, but I did find this one quite enjoyable to play for a few hours!
